How do I track permits, building inspections and the certificate of occupancy?
Every permit, every inspection the building official still has to pass, correction notices, and what stands between the job and its certificate of occupancy.
Record each permit under Building permits with its number, jurisdiction, dates and the permit card. Schedule the inspections it needs and record each result when the inspector leaves. A failed inspection is never overwritten; the re-inspection is recorded as a new result linked to the one that failed.
Each item on a correction notice opens a deficiency, so the fixes are tracked like any other. A check step can also be held on an inspection, for example so a ceiling can't be recorded as closed until the above-ceiling inspection has passed.
The Path to occupancy panel lists what is still open: permits not closed, final inspections not passed, corrections not fixed, and a temporary certificate about to expire. Owners see the same panel for their own job in their portal.
