A template is the shape of a piece of work before anyone has done it: the fields a delivery inspection asks for, the steps a commissioning check walks through, the hold points that stop it. Build one once and every check created from it inherits the same structure.
Editing a template here changes what new checks ask for; it does not rewrite a check already in progress, so a project halfway through a job never has its evidence retroactively invalidated by a template change made for the next one.
Most firms start from the templates the product ships with and adjust field names and hold points to match their own procedures' language, rather than building one from nothing.
